A good deal?

If you’re signed up to the Publishers Marketplace site in order to track the publishing market then you’re no doubt familiar with their “codes” used to give you an idea of what kind of deals other authors and publishers are making.

“nice deal” $1 – $49,000
“very nice deal” $50,000 – $99,000
“good deal” $100,000 – $250,000
“significant deal” $251,000 – $499,000
“major deal” $500,000 and up

So far I’m still in the “nice deal” category.  In fact, I guess that most of the authors I know are in the nice deal category. I could make a nice living in the nice deal category. Authors who actually score in the “significant” or ‘major” deal categories– well, they must have names like Rowling, Bush, Evanovitch.  But nobody I know makes that kind of money from their writing.
